The Cape's most sought-after address
For those seeking the high-life in a truly spectacular setting, there can be no more sought-after address than Nettleton Road, Clifton. The Cape Town street is home to some of the country's most magnificent trophy homes, and its residents include captains of industry, celebrities and international jetsetters. Its elevated position affords the homes panoramic views of the Atlantic Seaboard, and provides the backdrop for a cosmopolitan lifestyle worthy of the French Riviera.
Pam Golding Properties' area manager for the Atlantic Seaboard and City Bowl, Basil Moraitis, says Nettleton Road is home to some of the most up-market and expensive homes in the whole of South Africa, if not the whole African continent. "This address simply redefines the standard for luxury living," he says, "and represents the very epitome of the celebrity lifestyle. We regularly see properties here on the market from R45 million up to R80 million, R90 million or even R100 million. It is hugely popular with our international buyers who want a luxury home which allows them to enjoy the Clifton beaches and the Cape's laid-back summer lifestyle, before they return home to spend the Northern hemisphere summer in some other playground of the rich and famous. It's almost like South Africa's own little St Tropez."
PGP is currently marketing a landmark home on Nettleton Road which enjoys unobstructed views of Clifton, Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles. Designed to create a sense of blending into the ocean, mountain and sky, the home offers four bedrooms and four bathrooms, including a super-luxurious master suite, and has a separate guest flatlet. Large decks allow one to make the most of the views, while a sparkling pool provides the perfect space to unwind. Additional buildings include garaging for three vehicles, as well as staff accommodation. The West-facing home is situated on an erf of 946sqm, and is on the market at R47 million.
PGP's MD for the Western Cape metro region, Laurie Wener, says the home is well suited to those who seek a lock-up-and-go lifestyle with plenty of accommodation, yet insist on the privacy of a stand-alone house. "This property was designed by architect Arthur Quinton," she says, "and has previously been owned by some of SA's top businesspeople. It was recently modernized and refurbished, once again by Quinton, and now offers the highest standards of modern luxury living. At R47 million, it represents one of the more reasonable price tags offering access to Nettleton Road, whose enduring popularity and prestige means that it will almost always offer excellent return on investment."

Why would someone want to buy for only a few months a year. Rather rent its cheaper. What would the bond repayments be on R47 mil ? What would your monthly installments be?

Why buy indeed! Well, because some of us have loads of wonga lying around looking for places to deploy it, and paying some one rent for something we could buy just seems like a silly idea. Besides, you can't have ALL your tong in the market...
