The Western Cape has Talent - R50 000 prize

Western Cape budding artists are in for a treat with the opportunity to win R50 000

cash and have their paintings displayed at the soon-to-be completed luxury Radisson Blu Hotel, Blaauwberg.

Against the backdrop of natural splendour and spectacular sunsets, the Radisson Blu is rising from the silver sands of Blaauwberg. From the wide sweep of the bay and the rolling Blaauwberg dunes to the diverse Cape floral kingdom, visitors will have an unrivalled experience in visiting this low carbon footprint luxury hotel.

In what is a "one of a kind" opportunity, the hotel's developers are looking for paintings to grace the stately rooms of this landmark hotel. The hotels' contemporary rooms embrace a theme in vibrant turquoise and yellow accent tones, symbolising the raw beauty of the breaking daylight over the Atlantic. The artworks required for these rooms comprise the following:

72 landscape works (200cms x 60cms)

72 works (50cms x 50cms) and

72 portrait works (to fit a 140cms x 80cms area as single work or compilation)

The classic rooms enjoy a theme of rich plum- and orange tones symbolising the African dusk, and for which the developer calls for:

72 portrait works (140cms x 80cms as single or compilation works)

72 works (50cms x 50cms)

The artists can find inspiration in the raw beauty of the South African vistas, cultures and differences. Creativity will be appreciated.

The hotel itself is nearing completion with its dramatic Cape Town views and enviable location.

The competition runs from the first week in November through to the end of February 2010. The selection of artworks will take place during March 2010, followed by an announced prize giving.

All artworks need to be hand-delivered to reception at the Realcor Cape offices, situated at Marsh Rose Mall in Grabouw. Entries must be accompanied by the entry form available on our website. Entry forms to be completed in duplicate, one affixed to the back of the artwork, and one handed in on delivery at reception. Oils and acrylics on boxed canvas without frames or warping lines will be appreciated.

Entrants have to be 16 years or older.
